Jesus rises from the dead, conquering sin and death. The tomb is empty; the stone is rolled away; the sorrow of Good Friday becomes the dawn of eternal hope.
Opening prayer
Begin slowly and ask the Lord to draw you into the mystery with recollection and trust.
Seven-senses meditation
Remain prayerfully within the Gospel mystery and let the Holy Spirit deepen your contemplation.
Take your time. You do not need to answer every question. Let one image, word, or grace remain with you.
1. Sight
What do you see as the first light touches the garden tomb?
How does the stone look, rolled away from the entrance?
What is the expression on the faces of the holy women?
Can you see the linen cloths left behind?
How does the garden appear as sorrow begins to give way to wonder?
What changes in the light, the sky, and the tomb as you realize Christ is alive?
2. Hearing
What sounds fill the early morning garden?
Can you hear footsteps, weeping, or the sudden silence of awe?
What does the angel’s voice sound like:
“He is risen”?
How does that announcement echo in the empty tomb?
What does silence sound like when death has been defeated?
3. Smell
What scents linger near the tomb?
Stone?
Earth?
Myrrh?
Spices?
Does the morning air feel fresh, like creation beginning again?
Can you sense that the place once marked by burial is now filled with new life?
4. Taste
What does the air taste like?
Cool?
Clean?
Full of expectancy?
Does hope itself seem to enter your breath?
How does the freshness of dawn speak to the promise of new life in Christ?
5. Touch
How does the ground feel beneath your feet?
What would the cold stone of the tomb feel like under your hand?
How does the warmth of dawn touch your face?
If you kneel near the entrance of the empty tomb, what does the nearness of the Resurrection feel like in your soul?
6. Emotion
Interior Sense
What stirs in your heart as you realize Jesus is alive?
Awe?
Joy?
Relief?
Hope?
Tears?
Where in your life do you need resurrection, healing, or new hope?
What sorrow from Good Friday is Christ beginning to transform within you?
7. Spiritual Awareness
Grace Sense
What grace is Christ offering you through this mystery?
What stone does He desire to roll away from your heart?
How is the Risen Lord calling you to deeper faith?
Is He inviting you to leave behind fear, discouragement, sin, or despair?
Can you hear Him calling you to live as a witness of hope?
Meditation conclusion
Remain in the silence of the mystery for one more moment before moving on.
Take a slow breath and rest in the mystery. The tomb is empty. The stone is rolled away. Christ is risen. The sorrow of Good Friday has become the dawn of eternal hope. What is the one grace, word, or image God desires you to carry with you from this encounter?
