Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels September 29, 2026

Today the Church celebrates three archangels whose names reveal how God cares for His people:

Michael — “Who is like God?” He defends us against evil. Gabriel — “God is my strength.” He announces God’s saving plan. Raphael — “God heals.” He guides and restores those who suffer.

In Daniel’s vision, countless angels surround the throne of God as the Son of Man receives an everlasting kingdom. Revelation reveals Michael and his angels battling the dragon. Their victory, however, comes through the authority of God and the saving Blood of Christ.

The Gospel brings this heavenly reality close to us. Nathanael is astonished that Jesus saw him beneath the fig tree before they had ever met. Jesus promises him something greater: heaven opened and the angels ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.

Jesus is the meeting place between heaven and earth. Through Him, heaven is no longer distant or closed. The angels minister according to His will, but Christ alone is our Savior. Their mission always directs us toward Him.

We may not ordinarily see the spiritual battle surrounding us, yet we experience it whenever fear, temptation, discouragement, or accusation enters our hearts. Today’s feast reassures us that we are not abandoned. God sends His angels to protect, guide, announce His truth, and assist His healing work.

Like Nathanael, we are also completely seen by Jesus. He knows the quiet places where we pray, struggle, question, and wait. His knowledge of us is not threatening—it is deeply consoling. The Lord who sees us also invites us to trust Him: You will see greater things.

Where do I most need God’s protection, strength, or healing today?

Do I believe that Jesus sees the struggles I carry quietly?

How can I join the angels in worship by faithfully doing God’s will?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the bridge between heaven and earth. Thank You for seeing me, knowing me, and never abandoning me.

Through the ministry of Saint Michael, defend me in spiritual battle. Through Saint Gabriel, help me hear and accept Your word. Through Saint Raphael, bring healing to the wounds of my body, mind, and soul.

Open my heart to the greater things You promise, and let my life join the angels in praising and serving You.
