Friday of the Twenty-Fifth Week in Ordinary Time — September 25, 2026

Readings: Ecclesiastes 3:1–11 • Psalm 144 • Luke 9:18–22

“There is an appointed time for everything.” —Ecclesiastes 3:1

We often want to understand what God is doing before we are willing to trust Him. We welcome seasons of healing, growth, and joy, but struggle when life brings waiting, loss, or uncertainty. Ecclesiastes reminds us that every season has its appointed place within God’s providence. We may see only the present moment, but God sees the whole work He is bringing to completion.

In the Gospel, Peter correctly identifies Jesus as “the Christ of God.” Yet Jesus immediately reveals that the Messiah must suffer, be rejected, die, and rise. Peter recognizes who Jesus is, but he has not yet understood the path Jesus must follow.

The same can happen in our faith. We may believe that Jesus is Lord while still resisting the particular road along which He leads us. We want resurrection without surrender, peace without patience, and new life without allowing something old to die.

Christ teaches us that suffering is not necessarily evidence that God has abandoned us. In His hands, even a painful season can become part of our redemption. The cross is never the final word. The One who suffers and dies is also the One who rises.

Today, we do not need to understand the entire plan. We need only to remain close to Jesus in the season before us, trusting that God “has made everything appropriate to its time.”

For prayer: What season of life am I resisting because it does not look like the one I wanted?

Today’s practice: Name your present season before God. Instead of asking only for it to end, ask Him to reveal how you can love, grow, and remain faithful within it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the Christ of God, the One who entered suffering and transformed it through love.

Help me to trust You in every season— in times of joy and sorrow, of action and waiting, of certainty and confusion.

When I cannot understand what You are doing, keep me close to You. Give me the grace to surrender this present moment and to believe that no season is wasted when it is placed into Your hands.

Lead me through every cross into the new life You have promised. Amen.
